Shell has called on Perth-based fabrication and cladding specialist CladTek International to provide weld overlay services for the redevelopment of its B11 sour gas production platform off Malaysia’s Sarawak province.
CladTek said in a statement it was asked by Shell Malaysia’s procurement contractor, Petronas Mitco, to provide cladding worth several million dollarsf or carbon steel piping components in the development.
Precise terms of the contract were not revealed. The company said it would provide the services at its facility in Batam, Indonesia.
Cladding and anti-corrosion pipe linings are particularly important on equipment carrying acidic sour gases rich in hydrogen sulphide.
The B11 platform, currently capable of processing up to 600 million cubic feet of sour gas per day, is being upgraded to handle production from new sources and to provide space for added compression capacity in future.
Detailed engineering on the project is being handled by Malaysia’s Ranhill Worley.
CladTek said the contract was the second it had won from Shell recently. It said it had also been given the nod by the Anglo-Dutch supermajor to provide lining for a 47-kilometre pipeline in Oman in the United Arab Emirates.
